In 2016, when I was dreaming up the concept for LeDaveed, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go for it. To take a breather from my deep thinking, I took myself to see The Big Short in downtown Toronto.
As I went up the escalator, I stumbled across the Joe Fresh Centre for Fashion Innovation in the same building. I learned that it was Canada’s leading fashion accelerator, and I kept it on my radar as a stretch goal to pursue in the next year.
Today, Shira and I are proud to announce that LeDaveed is one of just three Canadian fashion companies – out of 100+ to apply – to be accepted into the last cohort of this accelerator.
The acceptance provides LeDaveed with up to $50K of funding, 18 months of rent-free office space, and mentorship by a roster of senior fashion executives – without any equity dilution.
And, good things tend to come in bunches. We’re also honoured to announce that we’ve just become the first luxury leather bag company in the world to be awarded Certified B Corporation status for exceptional standards on quality and enviro-social performance.
So, after over a year building the guts of LeDaveed in a windowless basement, we’re moving. We’re excited about getting some natural light and continuing to pursue our mission – with the power of our new accelerator behind us.
Thank you for your support!
